Almost fifty years after the dissolution of the Federation of the West Indies
(1962), 'Locating the Caribbean' asks to what extent the notion still holds
of Caribbean unity and, with it, a shared Caribbean cultural identity. The
result - as is evident from the contents of the issue - is a cluster of lively
and thought-provoking viewpoints, that range from the plainly dismissive
to the searchingly sceptical to the quietly optimistic, and that often overlap
or collide as they move between nation-state, region, and diaspora.
